Writing Stories That Heal: From Margo’s Magic to Ashes & Honey

A cozy seat featuring two books. On the left is 'Ashes & Honey' by Wendy Sue Maggio, a novel with a cover depicting a glowing river of honey. On the right is 'Margo and the Magic Glasses', a children's book with a colorful illustration of a girl and magical glasses.

Stories have always been more than entertainment for me. They are a way to reach hearts, start conversations, and remind readers, young and old, that they are not alone.

Over the past year, I have found myself writing in two very different spaces: children’s books and domestic suspense novels. On the surface, they may seem worlds apart. But at their core, they are connected by the same purpose. To offer hope, courage, and the quiet reminder that even in darkness, light still exists.

Margo and the Magic of Childhood

My children’s book, Margo and the Magic Glasses, was written with young readers in mind, but also with the adults who love them.

Margo is a curious little girl who sneaks ice cream, makes mistakes, and learns important lessons along the way. Through her adventures, I hope children see themselves. Imperfect, imaginative, and deeply loved.

A young girl with pigtails is reaching into a refrigerator to grab a bucket of ice cream, while an excited woman wearing sparkly sunglasses runs towards her.

My goal with children’s stories is simple:

To encourage kindness
To nurture bravery
To remind kids that their feelings matter
To show that mistakes do not define who we are

If even one child closes a book feeling a little stronger or a little more understood, then the story has done its job.

More Margo adventures are on the way, and I cannot wait to continue sharing her world with you.

A Different Kind of Story: Ashes & Honey

While my children’s books speak to growing hearts, my upcoming domestic suspense novel, Ashes & Honey, speaks to wounded ones.

Releasing March 3rd, Ashes & Honey tells the story of a woman who survives betrayal, manipulation, and attempted destruction and slowly discovers her own strength.

This book was written for women who have been mistreated.
For women who have been silenced.
For women who have wondered if they would ever feel whole again.

I wanted to write a story that says:

You matter.
Your life matters.
Your pain is seen.
Your future can still be beautiful.

Ashes & Honey does not shy away from darkness, but it also refuses to leave readers there. It is ultimately a story about resilience, faith, and choosing to rise from what tried to break you.

One Heart Behind Every Story

Whether I am writing about a little girl with magical glasses or a woman rebuilding her life, the heart behind the stories is the same.

I write for hope.
I write for healing.
I write because stories can whisper truths we sometimes struggle to say out loud.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for reading. And thank you for allowing my stories to be part of your world.

With gratitude,
Wendy Sue Maggio
